Electrostatic Painting

Electrostatic Painting in Delray Beach and South Florida

Electrostatic spray refinishes metal where it stands. The paint is charged, the object is grounded, and the coating wraps around rails, edges and back faces instead of drifting past them. Lockers, handrails, elevator doors and partitions go back into service without being removed from the building.

How electrostatic painting works

The spray gun puts a positive charge on the paint particles as they leave the tip. The metal being painted is grounded. Opposite charges attract, so the particles are pulled onto the surface and around it. That attraction is what people call the wrap: a single pass coats the front of a round handrail and much of the back, and edges that a brush or a conventional sprayer would miss pick up an even film.

Because the paint is pulled toward the target instead of floating in the air, overspray is far lower than with conventional spraying. Less overspray means less masking, less cleanup and less paint wasted.

What it is good for

  • Stair and balcony railings in condos, offices and parking structures
  • Locker banks in gyms, schools, fire stations and break rooms
  • Elevator doors, frames and cab interiors
  • Metal office partitions, file cabinets and fixtures
  • Metal entry doors, frames and gates
  • Wrought iron and aluminum fencing near the coast

Electrostatic painting vs powder coating

These are different processes and they are often confused. Powder coating is a dry powder applied in a shop and cured in an oven, so the part has to be removed and taken to the shop. Electrostatic painting is liquid paint sprayed on site, so the item stays installed. If an item can be unbolted and it will take heavy abuse, a shop powder coat may suit it. If it is fixed to the building, or the building cannot be without it, electrostatic is the practical choice. Powder coating service: [[ NEEDS: does Lazarre powder coat, yes or no ]]

What it costs

Price depends on the number and type of items, their condition, access and the hours the work has to happen. Every quote comes with a written scope. [[ NEEDS: price bands and typical project types from Evens ]]

Common questions

Do the lockers, doors or railings have to be removed?

No. Electrostatic painting is done in place. Items are cleaned, prepped and masked where they are installed.

Can the building stay open while you work?

Yes. Work is sectioned so the rest of the space stays in use, and it can be scheduled after hours or on weekends.

How long before the area can be used again?

Overspray is low and the coatings cure quickly, so many areas return to service the same day. Exact times depend on the coating and conditions and are written into the scope.

Is electrostatic painting the same as powder coating?

No. Powder coating is a dry powder baked in a shop oven. Electrostatic painting is wet paint applied on site with a charged spray.

Does it smell?

Low-odor coatings are available for occupied spaces. Ventilation and timing are planned in the scope.
